IN SITU FOCUS 2018 – Alexandros Mistriotis workshops

Workshopene avholdes:
24. april – House of Foundation
26. april – House of Foundation
02. mai –  Litteraturhuset i Fredrikstad

Den kunstneriske vandringen vil gå under navnet «The Reception».

Alexandros Mistriotis om kunstprosjektet «The Reception»:
The Reception started as a walk-talk in the historical centre of Athens. It is evolving to a more complex attempt to explore storytelling and public space. The initial part, the walk, is also evolving. It offers a narrative flickering between reflexive poetry and poetic theory. The scenic space is the perception of the spectator. There is no particular representation or spectacular element. The city is considered as the mirror of all possible questions. Public space, the space of the “Polis” is the birthplace of all political models largely defining personal identities. We occasionally return to the public space attempting to find answers or questions and recover lost meaning.

I like when I am immobilised by things. When my mind stands still. I search for meaningful silence. Ironically, I often talk a lot on my way there. And this is why I hope each «piece» starts when it ends; the real stage is the mind of the participants when they go on with their life. I make no distinction between poetry, reflection or theatre. My main theme is the conscience of the «impossible». Political, social or personal and intimate. I search for impossible states and I stand there like Achilles stood, speechless, in front of the sea.

Workshopen foregår primært på engelsk.

INFORMATION IN ENGLISH:

Alexandros Mistriotis is a Greek artist with a unique ability to read and interpret the urban landscape in unconventional ways. He will lead three daylong workshops that investigate how we perceive and observe the city from various perspectives. Each workshop will combine interdisciplinary specialsts, from architects to urban planners, artists and historians, together with eganged inhabitants. The participants will be assigned practical tasks which will contribute to an unpredictable mapping of the town centers, with personal stories from the profound to the banal. The workshops will be organised in cooperation with House of Foundation in Moss and Litteraturhuset i Fredrikstad, and will be held primarily in english.

The results will contribute to Mistriotis’ research and development work as he creates an artistic urban walk for NonStop International Theatre Festival in Moss in September. In 2019 he will create a new walk for Fredrikstad. The process is based upon an artistic project Mistriotis has developed in his hometown of Athens since 2010. This spring’s artistic residency is a contination of the work that began in 2017, when he was in residence with Østfold kulturutvikling for 30 days over three visits.

The Reception is a part of IN SITU ACT 2017–2020, an international cooperation that is supported by the EU culture program Creative Europe. IN SITU European Platform for Art in Public Space is a network with 20 partners in 14 countries that was established in 2003. Østfold kulturutvikling (Scenekunst Østfold) became the first and only Norwegian member in 2014. Previous IN SITU productions have been G. Bistaki (FR) at Verket Moss with Cooperatzia (The Trail) i, 2014 and The Baïna Trampa Fritz Fallen in 2015, Karl Van Welden (BE) Saturn III atop Fredriksten Fortress in Halden in 2015, and Kitt Johnson (DK) Mellemrum Encounter/Moss, which created two unique urban walks together with six artists in the centre of Moss in 2016.
